The NAV Starter Pack

With the release of NAV’S new album Good Intentions we are going to see an influx of people discovering the Canadian rapper for the first time. So, because we are big NAV fans here we decided to put together a five-song starter pack to get any new listeners interested in getting their feet wet with his sound.

  1. Feature NAV

Everybody knows NAV with a feature is a totally different beast then NAV by himself. That’s not to say he is any less talented but just that some of his best tracks come with other artists. That’s why we chose Wanted You Featuring Lil Uzi Vert. An artist NAV seems to have tremendous chemistry with. Both artists bring their signature flows to this track and bounce off he each other really well. This track is one of his more popular hits, with large appeal to anyone already accustomed to the dark trap sound

  • Sad Boy NAV

NAV is no stranger to the more melancholic trap records. People often claim that all NAV songs sound the same. We disagree. Songs like Lonely definitely help diversify his portfolio. On this track NAV talks about using some of his favorite drugs Xanax and Adderall to cope with loneliness. The production is simple yet very spacey, NAV and Rex kudo did a fantastic job crating a sad atmospheric beat on this song.

  • Melody NAV

One of the most appealing things about NAV’S music is his very catchy choruses. Now we know this can be a contentious category because there are so many options but think one track that stands out above the rest is VICODIN a cut from his Bad Habits album. VICODIN has a very catchy chorus that combines a more upbeat, fast hitting production that pairs well the flow switch ups NAV uses on this track.

  • Party NAV

We would argue that Champion is defiantly a top 3 song in his catalog. Here we are with NAV going ham with another artist again. Travis and NAV sound so good together and their chemistry is on full display on this song. Its nice to see both artists tackle the chorus together, it adds a lot to the more up-tempo style of the song. To really appreciate this song, you got to listen to it in the club or at a party.

  • Classic NAV

The song that arguably put NAV on the map Myself. Myself is so good because it combines almost every aspect of NAV we talked about here except for the feature. Dark moody late-night drive beat? Check. Bars referencing drugs and how sad he is? Check. But one of the elements about this song that we appreciate is just how introspective and honest he comes across in this song. Saying that unless he does drugs, he won’t truly feel like himself. This reminds of the Weekend And his song The Hills which preaches a similar message. Now we see why these those two get along so easily.
